Taizé Prayer Service -
Friday, September 10, 6:30 pm

Taizé prayer services are based on a prayer tradition originating in Taizé, France. These services are usually held the first Friday of each month in the Chapel of First Presbyterian at 6:30 pm. The service includes scriptures, spoken prayers, sung prayers, and silent meditation.
Contemplative Prayer
Be still and know that I am God.    - Psalm 46:10
Contemplative prayer is an ancient Christian practice that focuses on centering our attention on the presence of God.   Although it lost favor with the church in the Middle Ages, in modern times it has regained popularity.
Prayer Shawl Ministry
Prayer Shawl Ministry provides shawls knitted by parishioners for parishioners. The shawls are given to persons who are seriously ill, have suffered a loss or are in the midst of a crisis. The intent of the shawl is to deliver a sense of God’s love and peace to the recipient.
Parish Nurse
The goal of the parish nurse program, a Deacon ministry, is to help members stay well and to create a feeling of deeper caring throughout the church community. In cooperation with the pastors and the Health Ministry Committee, the parish nurse develops programs for wellness and disease prevention, visits hospitalized and homebound members, coordinates volunteers to care for church members in need, and connects church members with community resources and services. You may contact Barbara Yankey, Parish Nurse, for more information.
Prayer Chain
The Prayer Chain connects those in need of prayer with church members who are committed to a ministry of prayer. Prayer requests may be sent to Scott Minteer at the church office and he will contact the prayer chain coordinator.
Men's Prayer Breakfast
Open to all First Presbyterian Church men, this group meets on the first Saturday of each month at 8:00 AM at the Village Inn on Elmore Ave., in Davenport. Call Bill Butcher (359-3717) more information.
By popular demand, the Prayer Shawl Ministry is expanding.  An evening gathering is being added to this important ministry of compassion and caring.  A prayer shawl is a soft, warm shawl, knitted or crocheted, which is given in time of illness, loss or crisis.  Shawls may also be given to celebrate a special occasion.  Once completed, the shawl is blessed and given to someone for whom it will become a blessing of love. Karla Jones will host the evening “PSST” fellowship which will include those knitting and crocheting prayer shawls as well as those creating other fabric projects such as quilting, needle point, knitting, etc. The evening meetings will be the second Tuesday of the month.   The next meeting will be September 14. Please contact Parish Nurse Barb Yankey (yankey@fpcdavenport.org, or 563-326-1691, ext. 222) for more information.

Pastoral & Spiritual Care
 at First Presbyterian Church
Modern Christians, striving to deal with busy lives and seeking a closer relationship with God, are attracted to the calming nature of contemplative prayer.  Using silence and stillness, it leads us to the knowledge of God’s presence within us and helps us to experience “being with God.”  Not meant to be a substitute for other forms of prayer, it can enrich and add deeper meaning to our prayer life.
The Spirit Journey Committee invites you to join us third Tuesday of the month. Feature topics will focus on physical prayer, art, and sound as prayer, and partner prayer.  You are invited to attend any or all of the sessions.  Come join us!!
Health Ministry
The Health Ministry program is supported by the Board of Deacons. The goal of the program is to promote holistic health of body, mind, and spirit through a caring fellowship where God's love is demonstrated. To fulfill these goals, the Parish Nurse and Health Ministry Committee, in cooperation with the pastors, develop programs to promote wellness and support the congregation. Various health programs and support groups are offered throughout the year.
Operation Love
Operation Love is a member-to-member outreach for those with short term needs such as transportation, meals, emergency babysitting, or respite care.
In Touch Ministries
Congregation members provide one-on-one visits to congregation members and friends who have difficulty leaving their homes. This ministry keeps homebound members "in touch" with the rest of the congregation.
