Sunday Worship
Sunday worship is punctuated by music from several choirs, soloists, and instrumental groups throughout the year. The late morning service is enhanced with music from small groups and soloists. The Sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion are celebrated monthly. Baptism occurs on the first Sunday of the odd-numbered months, and Communion on the first Sunday of the even-numbered months.

First Presbyterian Church, Davenport, IA, is a diverse, inclusive congregation where everybody's welcome.

Taize Worship -
Friday, August 1, 6:30 pm

What is Taize? Taize is really a Protestant, theologically reformed, contemplative, prayer community in France which grew out of the destruction and cruelty of World War II. Its effective contemplative services of prayer have circled the globe in a variety of places experimenting with liturgical renewal.
taize
First Church is inaugurating such a musically oriented prayer service on the first Friday of each month at 6:30 PM, in the Chapel. The Taize Prayer Service is congregationally centered. The liturgy is sung as responses to spoken prayers and meditative readings - usually from Scripture. The singing is accompanied by a variety of instruments. The aura is enhanced with Christian visual art and iconography, sculpture, symbolism and candlelight. No preacher or liturgist actually stands up to lead the service. The service is led from among the people who are supported in their worship by the instrumental group with choral support.

choir Master woodcarver of First Church's Kildalton Cross, Don Hultgren, and Mike and Marian Senior from the Round Church of Islay, Scotland. Celtic Sunday,

Three years ago, the congregation dedicated the replica of the Kildalton High Cross on the Sunday after the Celtic Highland Games. This year a service celebrating the Celtic roots of Reformed worship is scheduled for late August 2008.

Featured will be Celtic dance, Welsh hymns, Irish melodies, Scottish tunes, pipes, and fellowship. People who have symbols of their Celtic heritage such as a tartan fabric or an Irish shamrock are encouraged to bring them to be recognized during the service.

There will also be a reception between the services in Fellowship Hall where Celtic refreshments will be served. Information about the seven Celtic nations and art will be on display as well.

You're Invited
Worship is the family celebration of the people of God, who come, as do all families, to claim their roots, find their grounding, and scatter, as do all families, to find their outlets for purpose and meaning in the world. You are invited to worship at First Presbyterian Church whenever you can. You will find a warm welcome here.
