MinistriesFirst Presbyterian Church is the first Protestant congregation established in Davenport in 1838. It has worshiped and served in the restored Victorian building at Kirkwood Boulevard and Iowa Street since 1899. This congregation of about 700 people, is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church, USA, the largest of the mainline Presbyterian bodies in the U.S., and is a part of the Synod of the Lakes and Prairies and the Presbytery of East Iowa. You're always invited to worship with us. Sunday worship is enhanced with music from several choirs, soloists, and instrumental groups throughout the year. The sacrament of Holy Communion is celebrated the first Sunday of alternate months. First Presbyterian Church is a diverse, inclusive congregation where everybody is welcome. Our facilities are handicapped accessible so that all may participate. Many people know First Presbyterian Church through its music ministry, which includes a Sanctuary adult choir of more than 100 singers, along with other choral and instrumental groups from pre-school through high school. The music ministry sponsors the well-known Performing Arts Series, which presents nationally-acclaimed guest artists as well as church-wide, full-scale Broadway productions and standing room only Christmas concerts.
Communion to the Furthest Pew
Communion to the Furthest Pew is served to members unable to attend church on dates immediately following communion at church.
Operation Love is a member-to-member outreach for those with short term needs such as transportation, meals, emergency babysitting, or respite care.
In Touch Ministries
Congregation members provide one-on-one visits to congregation members and friends who have difficulty leaving their homes. This ministry keeps home-bound members “in touch” with the rest of the congregation.
The Prayer Chain connects those in need of prayer with church members who are committed to a ministry of prayer. Prayer requests may be sent to the church office and we will contact the prayer chain coordinator.
Opportunities for education, topics of discussions, current events, and congregational engagement can be found in our Adult Christian Education (ACE) classes.
If you have a program or topic you think would be of interest, please contact a member of the ACE Committee. Classes are open to all — bring a friend!
