Children's Ministry
Birth - 5th Grade

At FPC, we offer a nurturing, welcoming environment where every child—from birth through 5th grade—can thrive. We are committed to creating safe and sacred space where each child feels loved, supported, and excited to be at church, no matter which program they attend. Understanding that every child develops differently, we approach ministry with flexibility and care, meeting each child where they are on their journey of growth and faith.

Sunday Morning Worship

Church Nursery: Nursery care is available on Sunday mornings, allowing parents to engage fully in the life of the church knowing their little ones are well cared for.

Prayground: The Prayground at First Presbyterian Church of Davenport is a special worship space designed for young children and their families. Located near the front of the sanctuary, it includes soft seating, quiet toys, and worship-themed activities that allow children to engage in age-appropriate ways while remaining a part of the worshiping community. This space affirms that children are vital members of the church and helps them grow in faith through participation, presence, and play. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to sit nearby, knowing that the sounds and movements of children are welcomed by our pastor.

Children’s Worship Bags: For young children who prefer to sit with their families during Sunday morning worship services, the Children's Worship Bags contain blank paper, coloring pages, crayons, and other materials to support children’s involvement in worship at an age appropriate level.

Acolytes: Acolytes are children and youth who serve in worship by lighting the Christ candle at the beginning of the service. This meaningful role helps young people participate in worship leadership and understand the importance of their presence in the life of the church. Training is provided, and children in elementary grades and older are invited to serve as acolytes throughout the year.

Children's Sermon: Each Sunday at FPC, children are invited forward for a special Children’s Sermon during worship. This brief, engaging message—usually led by the pastor—is designed to help young hearts connect with the scripture and theme of the day in an age-appropriate way. It’s also a meaningful way for children to see that the pastor cares about them, values their presence, and wants them to feel at home in worship. Through storytelling, visuals, and interactive conversation, the Children’s Sermon affirms that God’s Word is for all ages and that children are vital participants in the life of the church.
