Abby Schondelmeyer was baptized and raised at Epworth United Methodist Church in Toledo, OH where her family has a long history. All through high school and college Abby volunteered at Epworth UMC as a mentor for younger youth. While in college she participated in multiple internships through campus-based religious organizations. One intership was as a coordinator for children’s and youth ministry at a Presbyterian church in Toledo. The other was as a student intern assisting with the groundbreaking for the Center for Religious Understanding at the University of Toledo. It was through these internships that Abby met her husband Kris, and they married in December of 2012. In conversation with Kris, Abby discovered an appreciation for the Reformed theology of the Presbyterian Church.
Abby graduated from the University of Toledo in May of 2013 with a bachelor's in Religious Studies. Later that fall, she began her seminary career through a distance program with the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa (one of our PC(USA) seminaries). Abby graduated in May of 2017 with her Master of Divinity (M.Div.). Abby has served in children’s and youth ministry positions in multiple churches, most recently as the Youth Ministry Coordinator at the Presbyterian Church of Deep Run in Perkasie, PA.
The Schondelmeyer’s moved to Davenport in December of 2022 when Kris accepted the call to serve as Pastor of FPC. Pastor Kris and Abby have four active children, Alexander (9), Karrick (7), Isaac (4), and Lincoln (3), and a little 12-year-old dog named Tilly.
Abby says, “Ministry with children and youth is not just about the individual child, but also about their immediate family support system. I look forward to partnering in ministry with the families of our children and youth, empowering them to be all that God means for them to be.”
