The welcomed rain fell on our lawn, softening the earth. Weeds and crabgrass roots pulled easily out of the soil, leaving the healthy grass with space to spread and grow. Such a satisfying morning on hands and knees playing in the well-watered yard. Surely God speaks through the earth, water, and weeds.
Pastor Kris has been leading us through a sermon series on water. Gathering for worship together, sets aside the time to sit and give the holy spirit space in your life. This simple practice allows living water to flow over you, through you, and settle deeply in your heart, mind, and soul.
Have crab grasses in the form of negative thoughts, infiltrated and taken root? Have they made a home for themselves, displacing fruitful thoughts?
How do you choose what thoughts to pull or discard? Discerning weeds from flowers you haven’t met yet takes a moment. Consider what remains and what goes. Is that bloom a unique gift that nurtures your soul? Does it bring a smile to your face and those of others? Is that bloom a weed that needs to go? No one can make that decision for you. You and God get to work that out together.
Where do we go to do that sorting? Where do we go to receive the blessing of water?
Give yourself time and space to perceive and welcome living water. Come and rest in a pew on Sunday morning and feel the flow. There is always room in the stream, and the pew, for you!
